In a landmark new deal for both the actress and the streaming giant, Priyanka Chopra has struck a multi-year multi-million dollar deal with Amazon to produce original content for their streaming service.

Since growing to fame in the United States, Chopra has constantly sought to be a shining example of South Asian representation in Hollywood. She, from the beginning, aimed to correct any and all wrongdoings against people of her background in the industry. Now thanks to Amazon, she'll have one of the largest platforms possible to continue to further those ideas.

In a candid piece for 'Variety', Chopra detailed the new arrangement with Amazon as well as all the culminating actions of her life that came together through her reaching this milestone.

Reflecting on how the lack of South Asian representation on television when she was younger affected her, Chopra said, "I didn’t think as a 13-year-old when I was watching TV that something was missing, but now as I’m older, I wonder if I would have been a lot more confident in high school if I would have not been afraid of every other person that looked different than me."

"I wonder if I wouldn’t have put my head down and walked in the hallways feeling like a unicorn that everyone was staring at. I wonder if that would have changed my high school experience. I think it would have," the actress continued to mention.

When discussing her initial transition to American film as opposed to Bollywood, where she had already roughly 60 projects under her belt, she detailed the difficulty she endured seeking the level of representation she wanted, as well as constantly having to describe and justify things about herself.

"When I got the opportunity to come to America and get representation, I remember the first thing that I had to do was swallow my pride," she told the publication.

"I had to explain who I was and what I wanted to do. There have been some incredibly prolific Indian actors that have worked in American movies and have done incredible work — like Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Anupam Kher, Amitabh Bachchan — and outside of Indian Americans like Mindy Kaling and Aziz Ansari, there was no precedent for having someone who was an Indian immigrant from outside of the American culture to come in and break global entertainment," she continued to mention, name dropping other notable South Asian actors.

As an overall goal for her Amazon deal, Chopra says she plans to champion inclusivity and the stories of those that may not necessarily have had a voice prior to her offering one, "My quest really is to be able to tell female stories, work with creators from around the world and create a cross-pollination of storytelling. Amazon is such a great partner to do that because their reach and outlook is so global. My Amazon television deal is a global deal, so I can do Hindi language, I can do English language, I can do whatever language I want," she explained.
