Ford talked about how he has been coping with Buckley’s death since it happened three months ago.
Tom Ford On Adjusting To Life Without His Husband
Ford explained that things haven’t been particularly easy without his beloved husband. In his words, “It’s been hard after 35 years, very hard. I keep thinking, ‘Oh, God, I have to call Richard,’ or I need to send him a note about this. And he’s not here.”
While speaking about their 9-year-old son, Jack, the “A Single Man” director recalled how Buckley helped out in the morning. He disclosed that he had to adjust his morning routine to prepare their son for school now that Buckley was no more.
“Until recently, I had Richard to help me out in the mornings. It’s been a little bit of a struggle the last month,” he said. The designer noted that Buckley always took care of their son while he prepared for work. However, now he had to take up the role and is luckily thriving in it.
According to Ford, the upside to waking up early to prepare Jack for school is that he gets to be in the office as early as 8:10 am to get a good headstart.

Ford shared the devastating news via a statement that read, “It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley. Richard passed away peacefully at their home with Los Angeles.”
The fashion editor was surrounded by Ford and Jack when he took his last breath. Before his demise, Buckley was a notable name in the fashion industry, just like his husband.
Although he wasn’t as popular as Ford, he had quite the influence in the industry, having worked at publication houses like New York Magazine, Vanity Fair, Mirabella, and Italian Vogue.
Ford and Buckley connected due to their love of fashion. The lovebirds met at a fashion show in 1986, with Ford falling for him instantly. Despite the 12-year-age gap, the duo made it work, staying by each other’s side through good and bad times.
The couple welcomed their son Jack through a surrogate in 2012 and two years later officially tied the knot when same-sex marriage was legalized in the States.
Ford On’ House Of Gucci’
Although the fashion mogul has relatively been low-key since his husband’s passing, he recently made headlines for his review of the hit movie “House Of Gucci.”

The filmmaker wasn’t impressed and likened the viewing experience to a natural disaster. Ford described it, saying he “felt as though I had lived through a hurricane when I left the theater.”
While he blatantly bashed the production and screenplay, Ford did well to praise the costume, cinematography, and of course, Lady Gaga’s performance.
