Per reports, after graduating from Newport Harbor High School, Aoki went to the University of California to study Sociology and Feminist Studies. It was during his time there that he kickstarted his music career.

Aoki's unique remixes brought attention to his craft, but it wasn't until he remixed the hit song, "Forever," sung by Kanye West, Drake, Eminem, and Lil Wayne, that he was put on the chart.
His remix of the hut tune peaked at No.1 on the Hype Machine’s chart in December 2009, and the rest is history. Aoki has since grown to become one of the most-celebrated electronic dance music artists, with his 2012 debut album, "Wonderland," bagging a Grammy nomination.
When Aoki isn't making music, he makes major philanthropic moves. He is the owner of the Steve Aoki Charitable Fund, which donates money to medical research and humanitarian relief.
