Johnny Depp may carry himself as the boy, or rather the man next door, but his spending habits can put Elon Musk to shame. Despite his recent rough years all because of a very, very sour marriage with Amber Heard that ended with a slew of accusations from her end, it seems like Depp is finally getting his own back with news coming out that Amber Heard was no victim in this marriage. But Depp needs to wisen up, both with women and with his habit of spending money like water.
In 2016, Depp earned about $48 million as an actor, and his ultimate earnings had to be more with him being the face of brands like Christian Dior. That said; when you tend to spend $2million a month, regularly, then $48million a year don’t seem that much, right? Because Depp does tend to go overboard with letting his money flow to wherever or on whichever new thing that catches his fancy. In fact, his monthly wine spend is more than what many of us earn, annually!
$30,000 on wine, every month, makes for $360,000 a year, which suddenly makes him seem awfully close to the rum-loving Captain Jack Sparrow he so beautifully plays in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise. Of course, we are not saying that he drinks $360,000 of wine every year, just that he spends that much money on what has to be a gargantuan wine cellar. But this is to be expected from a man who one decided to buy a whole French town, rather than just a house or two!
In 2017, Johnny Depp sued his business managers, Joel and Rob Mandel, accusing them of mismanaging his finances and making him lose tens of millions of dollars. The managers countersued, claiming Depp had such extravagant tastes, he never once thought of money as a tangible and exhaustible asset. Considering he spent some $3million to lay Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes to rest by firing them from a cannon, we are not surprised that his business managers’ cried foul. It seems that finally though, Depp is wisening up with money too.
That French town is now up for sale, listed at $63million, along with five penthouses in LA, for $13million. Of course, because Depp settled with his business managers out of court, we will never come to know who wronged who. With Amber Heard as well, there will be people believe in either side of the story., till the fat lady sings. But Depp should simply get back to doing what he does best, charming people with his onscreen talent and acting. And we will say cheers to seeing him back on the screen.
