Avril Lavigne is still astounding fans with her amazing hits.

The Canadian-born singer, now 37, has been in the public eye ever since she performed on stage with Shania Twain when she was only 15 years old. At the age of 16, she signed a two-album recording contract, which churned out bops like “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi” in 2002.

The “When You’re Gone” singer is still churning out big hits. On November 3, she posted a photo of herself covered in cake and flipping off the camera next to a shirtless Travis Barker.

“Just signed a record contract to Travis Barker’s record label DTA Records!” she wrote. “Should I drop my first single next week?”

Avril Lavigne Is Glad Fans Are Embracing The Pop-Punk Vibe

The “Here’s To Never Growing Up” singer spoke to Kerrang about her new single and explained the meaning behind the song “Bite Me.”

Lavigne explained that she’s been “reflecting on past stuff” and revisiting feelings connected to her past relationships. She was married to Deryck Whibley from 2006-2010 and “Nickelback” lead singer Chad Kroeger from 2013-2015.

“I feel like ‘Bite Me’ is kind of about a guy wanting a second chance but not giving him the time of day because, you know, you did before,” Lavigne explained. “It didn’t work out, and having that self-respect.”

Overall, she’s just happy that her fans have stuck with her all of these years and that she gets to see the pop-punk genre becoming mainstream again.

“I’m coming up on my 20th anniversary next year for my first album,” she explained. “So I’ve been doing this professionally for 20 years. Yeah. It’s crazy. People come up to me and they’re like, ‘Oh my God, I grew up listening to you,’ or, ‘I started music because of you.’ And it’s super-humbling and it’s really cool.”

She added, “And I’m stoked that pop-punk music, it’s coming back around right now and people are falling back in love with it. And it’s almost in a weird way, it feels bigger than ever right now.”
