Actress Kristen Stewart has come a long way since she first shared the screen with Robert Pattinson in the “Twilight” franchise, which ran from 2008-2012. Although the series was divided into “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse,” and “Breaking Down,” the last film was divided into two parts to give fans a proper send-off to the supernatural romantic saga.

Now that Stewart has a starring role as Princess Diana in the “Spencer” biopic, she’s taking a look back at one of the roles that helped put her on the map.

Kristen Stewart Says That Her And Pattinson Were ‘Young And Stupid’

In an interview with The New Yorker, Stewart, 31, couldn’t help but poke fun at her younger self.

She explained that Pattinson approached his role as Edward Cullen with an “intellectual approach that was combined with ‘I don’t give a f--- about this, but I’m going to make this sing.’”

“I was like, ‘Ugh, same,’” Stewart continued, adding, “And whatever, we were young and stupid and, not to say that we made it so much better, but that’s what it needed, and that’s what anybody playing those parts needed to feel.”

She also praised “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke. She described Hardwicke as “the perfect person to do a young-adult novel that had these dark romantic elements” because she had “this childlike openness and teenage triggers, and her whole sensibility was that the movie was going to feel horny and overconfident.”

Hardwicke had equal praise for Stewart, saying that Stewart kept it “so grounded and so real. I built the whole film around her.”

Stewart And Pattinson Had Amazing Chemistry On And Off-Screen

Hardwicke revealed that the pair had instant chemistry when they were doing chemistry tests for potential actors to play Edward Cullen.

"It was funny because they were both pretty shy and kind of a little bit nervous and awkward," Hardwicke revealed. "I said, 'Okay, let's go do the biology scene where you guys first meet.' So we went to my kitchen table for that scene and you could see pretty quickly that they were vibing off of each other."

She added that she sensed a lot of “electricity and chemistry” between them.

Although the couple started dating while filming the series, they called it quits after Stewart was photographed kissing “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders. Although the pair got back together, they broke up for good in 2013.

Stewart, now engaged to screenwriter Dylan Meyer, says she appreciates Meyer’s strong work ethic.

"I've been with people where work isn't at the forefront of the thing and therefore you don't do it as much. That's not good for me," she explained. "I don't like that. When you find somebody that, every aspect of your life— well, I guess I don't have many aspects. I want to make movies. That's primarily what I want to work on, and we share that, luckily."
