Nike Postpones Travis Scott Sneaker Release Amid Astroworld Festival Deaths

Travis Scott has been under a lot of criticism over the past week and a half due to the horrific events at his Houston-based Astroworld Festival. 10 people went on to lose their lives due to injuries sustained, and over 300 people in total were treated.

Lawsuits continue to pile on against Travis, and now his endorsement deals are starting to take a dive. The latest is Nike, which revealed their plans regarding his upcoming sneaker release.

December 16th was supposed to be the launch of Travis' Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack sneakers. Now, the iconic sneaker brand has announced that this release will not go on as planned. This will be postponed, as Nike released a statement, stating they are respecting all those affected by the events that occurred at Astroworld.

"Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack."

For many sneaker heads, they are still wearing Travis' Air Jordan 1 sneakers. These sneakers are in high demand on resale markets, as many go for over $1,000. These are very difficult to purchase on launch dates, as they sell out quickly on various sneaker apps. Most notably, Nike's SNKRS app.

Plenty of other events have slipped away from Travis in the aftermath of the Astroworld Festival. One is involving his home team, the Houston Rockets. November 10th was supposed to be "Travis Scott Night," where the first 3,000 fans would receive promotional t-shirts. That ended up being scrapped. Instead, the Rockets decided to hold a moment of silence for the Astroworld victims, ahead of their nationally televised game vs the Detroit Pistons. It's expected that the Rockets may distance themselves from the hometown superstar for a while.

Travis had been very popular among children, as well. He received his very own McDonald's meal in 2020, and also locked in collaborations with Fortnite. The video game launched his own emote, which are dance moves or other actions that Fortnite characters can use. Unfortunately for Travis though, Fortnite has since removed his emote.

Travis' collaboration with Fortnite definitely drew more younger support. This included 9-year-old Ezra Blount, who lost his life to injuries sustained at the festival. He suffered brain and organ damage, and was soon placed on life support, due to going through a medically induced coma.

Ezra officially passed away on November 14th. Ezra was looking forward to seeing Travis perform, as he sat on his father Treston's shoulders near the back of the crowd. Treston Blount got pulled into the hectic crowd, passed out, and Ezra fell. This led to him being trampled by a stampede of the massive crowd.
