Kirk Douglas was born in 1916 in a family of seven children, where Douglas was the only boy. They lived in Amsterdam, NYC, USA, where they settled after emigrating from Belarus after their marriage. His real name was Issur Danielovitch Demsky, although his parents renamed him Kirk Douglas after emigrating.
He had been in the United States’ Navy during World War II. He later enrolled in the University of St Lawrence, and show cased his talent at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
