Many dangers are involved in making action-packed movies, as award-winning actor Alec Baldwin recently discovered on the set of his new film “Rust.”
As reported by PEOPLE, while Baldwin was shooting a scene at the New Mexico set, the entertainer’s prop gun allegedly contained a live round that injured the film’s director and tragically ended the life of the cinematographer.
What Went Wrong?
After the unfortunate incident occurred, Secretary-Treasurer Anthony Pawluc described the shooting as “an accidental weapons discharge.”
Baldwin’s representative shared similar views with the news outlet by explaining that the gun in question contained blanks.
However, the email sent by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 44, a propmasters union, stated that the weapon contained “a live round.”
It is too early to make any assumptions as Juan Rios, the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, clarified that the investigation was still ongoing and the authorities have not confirmed the “live round” allegations.
The victims of this sad affair are director Joel Souza and Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The 42-year-old woman was airlifted from the scene to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she eventually died from her injuries.
A Survivor
48-year-old film director Souza was treated at Christus St. Vincent’s hospital and was released on Friday, October 22. PEOPLE shared the good news, which Souza’s representatives also confirmed.
Likewise, actress Frances Fisher announced the news on Twitter before calling out those spreading false truths about the tragic incident in a series of tweets.
Hutchins’ passing was honored by many members of the entertainment business, including the actor Joe Manganiello.
The Hollywood sensation described the late cinematographer as a “fantastic person” whose talents were equal to none as she had a keen eye for her job.

The Rust Movie Productions LLC also released a statement expressing their remorse and condolences to the deceased family.
They also announced the indefinite pause of the film’s production and the provision of counseling services for the crew members.
Speculations About The Incident
The Blast had previously discussed what happened on that fateful Thursday afternoon and Baldwin’s connection to the incident.
At the time, local authorities stated that they were investigating the weapon used and what kind of projectile was released.
Ironically, the “Boss Baby” star had shared an Instagram picture of himself on the “Rust” film set, in which he was seen wearing a bloody shirt and holding a similarly stained coat.
It was a possibility that the accident occurred while the actor was shooting a scene in which his character ended up looking like his post.
