Everybody loves an actor with versatility, who can play a superhero today, a werewolf tomorrow, and the son of a criminal the day after.
Of course, this is none other than Tyler Hoechlin, the 34-year-old American actor that has been widely applauded for his performance in many popular film projects.
He earned initial recognition for his role as Michael Sullivan Jr. in the film "Road To Perdition" and, after the success of that film, went on to star in several other series and movies such as "7th Heaven," "Teen Wolf," "Supergirl," amongst others.
He has also won awards for his excellent performance, such as the Teen Choice Award for Male Scene stealer, a Saturn Award for Best Performance, and a Young Hollywood Award for Best Ensemble Cast.
To recognize how amazing Hoechlin is on screen, here are four of his popular movie or series features.
Tyler Hoechlin In 'Road To Perdition'
Hoechlin first earned recognition in Hollywood at age thirteen for his role as Michael Sullivan Jr. in the 2002 film "Road To Perdition." The film was directed by Sam Mendes and featured Tom Hanks as Michael Sullivan, father to Hoechlin's character.
The movie follows the experience of a mob criminal and his son forced to seek vengeance when the rest of their family is murdered because the son witnessed a murder.
In an interview with Empire, Hoechlin revealed that his time working on "Road to Perdition" helped him realize that he really enjoyed acting and that if his dream of baseball didn't work out, he would become an actor.
He also credited the stars he worked with on the show for teaching him an invaluable life lesson. He said, "I mean, the people I worked with were incredible. Not just talent-wise, but just as people. You know, Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law, Daniel Craig, and Sam Mendes- all these guys were just absolute pros at what they do."
The film was a huge success and was widely recognized, winning several awards, including a BAFTA award for Best Cinematography and a Satellite Award for Best Cinematography. It also had numerous nominations at the Oscars and Art Directors Guild.
Tyler Hoechlin In 'Teen Wolf'
Another of Hoechlin's famous roles was his appearance on the series "Teen Wolf," in which he played the character of Derek Hale for four seasons. The MTV show launched in 2011 with an ensemble cast such as Tyler Posey, Dylan O'Brien, Crystal Reed, Colton Haynes, and more.
Hoechlin's character Derek was one of the major characters in the show, an older werewolf who mentored Posey's character, Scott. As the show progressed, his character evolved and began to build on a storyline of his own.
This series was Hoechlin's time to shine, and he did it effortlessly. The show became immensely popular, as did he and the rest of the cast.
It was a big blow to his fans when he announced that he would be leaving "Teen Wolf" and would only make reoccurring appearances as Hale.
The hit TV series won several awards, such as the Teen Choice Award for Choice Summer TV show three times in a row, from 2015 to 2017, Young Hollywood Award for Best Ensemble Cast, and many others.
Tyler Hoechlin In 'Fifty Shades Freed'
Although his role in "Fifty Shades Freed" was not a major one, it was still enough to catch the attention of many of his fans. Hoechlin played the character of the best-selling author, Boyce Fox.
In the film, Fox had a meeting with the main character Anastasia Steele after she found out about her pregnancy and just before she received the critical ransom call from the villain, Jack.
However, fans of Hoechlin didn't need his character to do much or have a major presence in the film; many were fine with just having him on their screens.
They expressed thus much on social media when it was announced that he was cast as Fox and when the film was released.
Tyler Hoechlin in 'Superman & Lois'
Hoechlin was cast as everyone's favorite superhero in the CW series "Superman & Lois." The show's first season debuted in February 2021, and it was an instant hit that quickly became the channel's best primetime premiere since 2019.
In the series Superman, played by Hoechlin, his wife, Lois, played by Elizabeth Tulloch, and their twin sons returned to his hometown Smallville, where they struggled to balance their family with new villains threatening their lives and the world.
Hoechlin's first appearance as Superman was in the series "Supergirl," also by the CW. During an interview, Hoechlin described his Superman cast as "surreal," and expressed his hope that he could successfully embody the symbol of hope that his character represents.
His performance in the movie was highly praised by his fans and film critics, who described him as "a breath of fresh air." With the renewal of "Superman & Lois," just a week after its first episode aired, his fans can look forward to seeing more of him on their screens.
