Alec Baldwin's niece, Hailey Bieber, is reacting to the tragic shooting and death of the director of photography on the set of his new film 'Rust.'
Justin Bieber's wife shared her thoughts on Instagram, sending love to the family of Halyna Hutchins, who was tragically shot after a prop gun on the set fired a real bullet. "Sending all my love to the family of Halyna Hutchins. This is a truly unimaginable and devastating tragedy."
Hailey, who is the daughter of Alec's brother -- Stephen Baldwin -- continued, "My thoughts are also with Joel Souza as he recovers. I am absolutely heartbroken for everyone involved."
Justin Bieber's Wife 'Devastated' Over Shooting Tragedy
The statement comes on the heels of a 911 call being released from the incident, where a script supervisor blamed a man on set for not checking the guns properly. In the audio, released by local authorities, the woman says "it's his responsibility." At this point, the name of the person is unknown, but law enforcement is investigating the situation.
According to reports, Alec Baldwin is cancelling his upcoming projects after being "devastated" over the accident. The 'SNL' star reportedly was given the prop gun and told to fire it during a rehearsal for the movie. A warrant for the case indicates that the actor was handed the weapon, and obviously had no idea it was loaded with a "live round."
Alec Baldwin Was 'Inconsolable For Hours' Following Shooting Accident
He is "taking some time to himself and re-center himself," a source told People. Adding, "This is how he handles difficult times. Whenever something bad happens, in the short term, he removes himself from the public eye." Obviously, following the devastating accident, Baldwin was "hysterical and absolutely inconsolable for hours" and although everyone knows it was an accident -- he is "absolutely devastated."
The film's director -- Joel Souza -- who was also injured in the accident broke his silence on the situation, saying, "I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna. She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch, and always pushed me to be better."
Halyna Hutchins' Husband Breaks Silence On Wife's Death
He continued, "My thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time. I am humbled and grateful by the outpouring of affection we have received from our filmmaking community, the people of Santa Fe, and the hundreds of strangers who have reached out. It will surely aid in my recovery."
Halyna's husband, Matt Hutchins, also broke his silence on his wife's tragic death. "Thank you to Halyna's friends and mentors at AFI for establishing a scholarship to honor her memory and support aspiring female cinematographers. Anyone seeking to honor her memory, please direct your giving to this fund," he tweeted.
As we reported, the terrible accident is still under investigation by the Sheriff's Department in New Mexico, as well as the District Attorney. In this case, authorities are looking to see how a live round ended up in the prop gun. Investigators have taken the weapon and other ammunition on set for further examination.
