Camila Cabello Says She Had No Friends While In Fifth Harmony

Camila Cabello was born and spent most of her early life in Havana, Cuba, with her family. This Cuban-born American singer and songwriter rose to fame as a girl group member in Fifth Harmony.

Cabello started establishing her solo career by releasing collaborations like "Bad Things" with Machine Gun Kelly and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Shawn Mendes. The former got up to number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Cabello's split from Fifth Harmony snowballed after that, and she has garnered no small amount of fans over the years. This split was rumored to be quite nasty, especially during Fifth Harmony's performance at the 2017 MTV VMAs.

During the performance, the group used a double representing Cabello, which was yanked off stage mid-performance. Saying Cabello was upset by this would be quite an understatement.

At almost seven years old, Cabello immigrated to Miami, Florida, in the United States with her mother. Her father soon followed them.

This solo journey with her mom and the time they spent together obviously deepened their relationship.

Cabello recently sat down for an interview with Bustle and chatted about her close relationship with her mom and called her "the better half" of her brain. She explained that the "it's a mystery" tattoo on her pinky finger was a tribute to her mom.

The singer was also quoted saying, "It's a pinky swear to her to remember, no matter what happens, everything is gonna turn out well. There's no telling how, but it always does." She then revealed that her mom's presence and support in her early years as a singer was another reason that brought them together.

Cabello got quite realistic in her Bustle interview about her lack of friends while in Fifth Harmony. During the interview, the Havana singer admitted that members of Fifth Harmony were not exempted in her difficulties with making friends.

This brought her even closer to her mom because she began spending every spare moment she had with her.

"I've been [working] since I was 15," she admitted. "I've been travelling so much, and it's been really hard for me to water the soil for friendships. It was always me and my mom. Probably to the extreme. Because I never had any friends."

This news might not be particularly shocking for Fifth Harmony fans due to the rumors surrounding her messy exit from the group. Her time with the band behind her, Cabello, has shown that her shortage of friends has been only due to circumstance.

Even with her shortage of friends, Cabello certainly regards Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes as two of her closest and oldest friends in the industry.

Her friendship with Mendes has blossomed in the last few years, and the two are now regarded as a couple.

In her interview, Cabello gave Swift credit for teaching her the true meaning of being a great companion. She said, "Taylor has often been so kind and supportive and also goes out of her way to give you artist suggestions."

She went on to talk about her loving relationship with Mendes, "I think we're both sensitive. I'm really lucky to be able to surround myself with tenderness; it's really important to me. She also talks about how sweet they are to each other.

In light of this, it's safe to say Cabello might have had these two in mind during the making of "Familia," her third album, which she said isn't only about family by blood, but also your chosen family.

This long-awaited album was inspired by two things; 'food and family.'

"Don't go yet" was her first song in two years and the first song that marked the beginning of the Familia album. In an Instagram post on July 23, Cabello wrote that she could only create the song with the help of producers Scott Harris snd Mike Sabbath.

She wrote saying, "This whole album to me was inspired by two things: family and food. Your family by blood, but also your chosen family. Who you want to break bread with. Who you want to sit at the dinner table with, cook a meal for, get wine-drunk with, and dance in the living room with," she wrote...

"To me, those are the moments that make me glad to be alive, those moments of collective joy and true vulnerability and connection with other people."
