The various similarities between pop music star Shawn Mendes and Harry Styles have led to numerous conversations concerning who could be branded as the nicer guy.

Each has a thriving pop music career with a massive fan base, is one-half of a much talked about celebrity couple, and both have a history with Taylor Swift.

'Treat People With Kindness,' Harry Styles Tells Fans

Styles is well known as a friendly, thoughtful guy, and rightly so. He's known to have been involved in using his wealth and fame to aid cancer patients, underprivileged kids, refugees as well as helpless animals.

He even has a song titled "Treat People With Kindness," which is used as an anthem for being nice to people.

It is no surprise that his fans worldwide continue to adore him with feats like this, and he seems to love them in return. However, upon revealing his relationship with Olivia Wilde, his fans appeared to be discontent.

The duo started dating shortly after Wilde broke off her engagement to another fan-loved actor, Jason Sudeikis. Regardless, Sudeikis has wished the actress the best and throws light on his role in their breakup.

However, considering his philanthropic acts and how he treats his fans, Styles' nice guy role is quite fitting. On the other hand, how about Mendes? Does the nice guy title also apply to him? Let's find out.

Mendes' Stance On Being A Nice Guy Is Not What You'd Expect

During a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Mendes spoke quite candidly about his desire to shed his nice-guy image in favor of a less confining one.

This artist admitted that he was bored of the nice guy label, saying, "To be a nice person is the best thing in the world – but, yeah, I'm 20, and I just want to have fun. What I don't want to do is live the rest of my life thinking, 'I wouldn't do that because I'm known as Prince Charming."

"The second that someone corners you into a personality, you don't want to be that person anymore."

Per Teen Vogue, Mendes is well known for the boundaries he sets when dealing with fans, which some of his fans have seen as healthy and necessary.

This "Stitches" singer is also well known for his foundation called "The Shawn Mendes Foundation," which "seeks to amplify, empower, and uplift youth changemakers, their organizations and their work," according to the mission statement on their website.

'I Think Maybe, I Could Be A Bit Nicer Than Him'

In an interview with Vanity Fair, which involved a lie detector machine, Mendes revealed who he thinks is the nicer guy between him and Styles. He made these comments when the interviewer showed him a picture of the British pop star.

"Am I nicer than this man? It's hard to tell; I've never really actually met him or hung out with him," he stated. "Looking at this photo — I think maybe, I could be a bit nicer than him." He went on to comment on how nice Styles looked in said photo.

While there has been no reaction from Styles' concerning Mendes' comment, fans of the former showed discontent with the comment.

However, they were swiftly countered by Mendes' fans across social media platforms, who pointed out that the singer didn't technically say he was nicer than Styles in a definite manner but said that he could be, judging from that picture.

Mendes, But With An Extra 'E'

Even more on Mendes being a Mr. Nice Guy was his lack of offense at the mispronunciation of his name by Styles.

During a Saturday Night Live show hosted by Styles, the former One Direction singer mispronounced Mendes as 'Mendees,' giving it an extra 'e.'

The honest mistake didn't seem like it would be the root of any bad blood between the pop singers when Mendes tweeted, "That's officially how it's pronounced now," following questions from Twitter fans who wanted to know how he felt about it.

Keeping in mind the fact that no one can be too nice, the possibility that this mispronunciation moment might have crossed through Mendes' mind while he was answering who he thought was the nicer guy isn't out of the question.
