Simone Biles Is Proud Of Her Decision To Put Herself First In The 2021 Olympics

This year's Summer Olympics was a spectacular event for sports lovers. Naturally, Simone Biles, one of the world's greatest and most decorated gymnasts, participated in the games. 

Although the athlete's time at the Tokyo event was short, the four-time Olympic gold medalist has never been prouder of her decision to prioritize herself over winning.

On Friday, October 15, Biles gave her fans a special treat by hosting a Q&A segment on her Instagram stories.

When the gymnast was questioned about which Olympic moment had marked her the most during her successful career, the 24-year-old chose this year's games.

The star athlete explained that she dared to do what her 16-year-old self would never dare try in an Olympic game. This act was simply Biles treasuring her mind and body.

During the event, the athlete chose to remove herself from four out of the five final games after suffering from a disorienting condition called "twisties," which makes one lose air awareness. 

Given the severity of the situation, the 24-year-old prioritized her health rather than risk injury from competing. Nonetheless, the Olympian returned to participate in the final balance beam event.

Speaking about the beam, a fan was curious to know whether or not Biles was afraid of it during games.

In response, the Olympic gold medalist wrote, "Nope. Even though it's betrayed me multiple times."

When Biles chose to step down for the sake of her health rather than compete, not everyone was on board with the athlete's decision. 

In September, The Blast reported that the 24-year-old was under fire from those who believed she orchestrated the whole fiasco to avoid competing.

Naturally, the highly decorated gymnast was disappointed by the multiple negative comments, but she didn't let them stop her from shining.

Instead, the Olympian took to her Instagram page to share a few words of wisdom for her critiques. The athlete stated that she wouldn't change the outcome of the games for anything in the world.

The gymnast reminded critics that one bad event couldn't erase her previous achievements, nor did it define her status as an athlete. She also acknowledged her resilience over the past couple of years.

According to Biles, she was not a "quitter," and that fact wouldn't change. The gymnast concluded her message with a resounding clap-back at the trolls.

The 24-year-old encouraged them to keep talking as she couldn't hear their tasteless remarks over the numerous awards that made her one of the most decorated gymnasts in the world.

Be it rain or sunshine, Biles continues to persevere. With her confidence and graceful skills, the gymnast continues to dominate the world of sports.
