Simone Biles is a star and she will not let the haters ruin her joy. With the hate on her decisions at the just concluded 2021 Olympics, the gymnast had a lot to say to her supporters and haters.
The gymnast has been through a lot since she chose her mental health over the competition, and the world has had a lot to say about it.
Especially television broadcasters like Piers Morgan, who saw her decision as a dramatic episode to try and evade responsibility.
Well, to everyone who’s hating on the gymnast out there, she has a profound message to all and sundry. Keep reading below to find out what it is.
Message To Haters
It has been a month since the Tokyo Olympics rounded off and Biles left with a bronze medal in the balance beam and a silver medal from the Team USA group win after withdrawing from most of her scheduled events.
The star gymnast reflected on her time at the Olympics in an Instagram post where she said “Definitely not the way I planned the Olympics going but I wouldn’t change anything for the world. I’m proud of myself and the career I’ve had thus far. This Olympics doesn’t erase the past accomplishments I’ve achieved nor does it define who I am as an athlete.”
Biles is clear that her withdrawals do not change her identity as an award-winning athlete and that she stands by her decisions and the career she has built for herself, saying “I’ve pushed through so much the past couple years, the word quitter is not in my vocabulary.”
And to her haters who persistently troll her for her decisions at the Olympics, the star gymnast and athlete left a clear message. She said “For some of you that may be how you define me but keep talking because I can’t hear you over my 7 Olympic medals which tied me for the most decorated gymnast EVER as well as most decorated American gymnast,” followed by two blushing emojis.
Simone Biles Olympics Withdrawal
The entire world and fans of Biles were shocked when USA gymnastics first announced her withdrawal from multiple events at the Tokyo Olympics.
She had qualified for the finals of the all-around competition as well as the finals for the vault and uneven bar events but went on to participate in the finals for the balance beam alone, where she won the bronze medal.
Her withdrawals were attributed to her having to focus on her mental health and her issues with the “twisties,” a situation she spoke about to NBC sports, saying “Just completely random, I went to do a floor pass and I just got lost in the air and I was like, ‘OK, it was a fluke.’ Didn’t do anymore. The next day we had a little practice before the team final and I was like, ‘OK, well, I have to do that again because that was really weird and it seemed off.’ And then I just could not get a sense of where I was in the air.”
These “twisties” created a loss of awareness of her position in the air, a situation that Biles had never experienced before and which greatly affected her mental health and performance, prompting her to put her well-being first and make the right decision to withdraw.
Support From Fans & Celebrities
Since posting, the Instagram post has gained over 850 thousand likes and over 7000 comments from fans and celebrities who have shown their support for her decision and kickback against haters.
Some particularly heartwarming of these are;
Fellow gymnast and athlete Jordan Chiles said “Preach! Say it louder for the people in the back”
“You are the most remarkable human ever to exist,” written by American Crime Story: Impeachment actor Beanie Feldstein.
A fan also wrote “You are not only the most decorated gymnast EVER but quite possibly the greatest athlete EVER. We love u!”
