The fake feud between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had all but died down when Reynolds decided to rekindle it as a birthday present for Jackman. The Australian star known for playing Wolverine in the "X-Men" franchise turned 53 on October 12 and Reynolds had a TikTok video ready and waiting.

Not to be outdone, Jackman took several digs at Reynolds in a post-birthday video on Instagram, in which he also thanked his fans for all their wishes. And had a "darn" good response to Reynolds' socks.

Hugh Jackman, in an interview, stated that the feud was now so old, he did not even remember when and how it began. But he did say that it was the time Reynolds was married to Scarlett Johansson who was close friends with Jackman. So Jackman would tease Reynolds to be on his best with Scarlett because he (Jackman) was watching.

Although Johansson and Reynolds split in 2011 and by 2012 he married Blake Lively, the teasing has now spilled over to Lively. In a recent Instagram video that Jackman made to promote Blake Lively's new line of fizzy mixers, Betty Buzz, he says "We love every flavor, some of us even like it with a little nip added. But more importantly, we love the woman who created it, Blake Lively. You are a one-of-a-kind, Blake."

After such high praise, he also added, "You are just fun, you are creative, you are sunshine seven days a week, and you're a saint for marrying that man. Sorry... not sorry."

"That man" being Reynolds, of course. Here's the video...

And so Reynolds took to TikTok to return the favor. In a short, simple, and tongue-in-cheek video, supposedly wishing Hugh Jackman a happy 53rd. The TikTok begins with a shot of the Deadpool's star smiling face and then pans down to show his socks, printed with Jackman's face. In the background, there's "A Million Dreams" playing, one of Jackman's songs from the movie "The Greatest Showman".

The caption atop the video reads, "Look I don't tell you how to celebrate Hugh Jackman's birthday. So don't tell me. Socks to be Hugh."

Of course, Jackman was ready with a repartee, and we're hard-pressed to judge whose on top right now.

Jackman took to Instagram as a response. He first began with a thank you. "Thank you guys, I've received so many messages, songs, birthday cakes, bread, a bunch of things, drawings, paintings, jokes, and from all of you, just wishing me a happy birthday."

The Wolverine star then added, "I know there's been a lot of messages about Ryan's post — him wearing socks with my face on them and wondering where you can get them. You can't get them anywhere because he made them himself, he darned them himself. I know, it's just really sad," he quipped. "But anyway, I guess you could ask him, he might darn you a pair or give you the ones he's been wearing."

Here's the Instagram video.

And Ryan Reynolds had to quip in with the last word, "I’ve been sewing a Hugh Jackman turtleneck, bodystocking that is to die for. You’re gonna love it."

We certainly hope it's a joke but knowing Reynolds, anything is possible. And if this happens, we have no idea how Jackman will return such a dear gesture. But it sure will be entertaining. Meanwhile, there's a whole new beef Reynolds has with Gerard Butler.
