Urban Meyer’s Wife & Daughter Defend Him After Creepy Video Emerged

The Meyer family is ready to move on. After the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars was caught on video dancing extremely close to a couple of young women at a bar in Ohio last week, both Urban Meyer’s daughter and his wife came out in support of the coach on social media.

After posting her support his wife Shelley said goodbye to Twitter as she wasn’t in the mood to deal with the trolls. However, the two women were clear that the Meyer family is looking to forgive and forget.

Urban Meyer’s wife took the biblical road so to speak. Tweeting out, 

"We all make mistakes-we are all sinners," she also wrote. "If you think you aren't? Then cast the first stone."

Apparently, people were still casting stones at her Twitter page. So she decided that she would shut down her account on the platform for the time being. This is actually not the first time that she’s been dragged into an incident involving her husband. In which Urban showed at the very least poor judgment. 

Shelley has been with Urban through thick and thin. Both of them were caught in the middle of a domestic violence case back in 2018. The incident got coach Meyer suspended for a few games from the team. Ultimately, it would lead to him stepping down as the head coach of Ohio State University. 

In that instance one of Meyer’s close assistants had been accused multiple times by his wife of domestic abuse. The wife of this assistant turned to Shelley Meyer for help. Presenting evidence of the alleged abuse to her through pictures and texts. However, the Meyer’s ultimately failed to discipline Urban’s assistant, and it all went downhill from there.

Urban Meyer’s daughter Gigi also spoke out about her father’s actions. She mentioned through her IG page that the family had decided to essentially forgive and forget. Gigi wrote on IG story, 

“We all decided we’re going to move on alright?” She then went on to add, 

“We’re moving on and life is good. We are blessed. I have the most incredible family in the entire world.” 

She would go on to talk about how even though her family’s life may seem different to the outside world they are still human. Folks in sports media that have followed the coach’s career seem to agree. Yet not in the positive outlook that Gigi wants to paint. 

At the time of writing Urban Meyer is still on active duty as coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. It doesn’t seem like things are going to change for the foreseeable future. At the beginning of the week as the videos of Urban dancing were making the rounds on social media, team owner Shahid Khan released a statement saying that he had spoken to coach Meyer about the incident. Although he qualified Meyer’s actions as embarrassing the hope is that he could move forward as coach of the team.
