Shannen Doherty just scored a MAJOR million dollars victory against her insurance company.
The ‘90210’ actress has been fighting with State Farm General Insurance for the last three years after fires ravaged her California home.
The Blast has learned the actress has been awarded $6,346,000.00 dollars by a federal court.
In case you weren’t aware, Doherty filed a lawsuit against State Farm General Insurance in 2019 after the Woolsey Fire ravaged her home in November 2018.
She said her home suffered severe smoke damage from the fires that swept through Malibu and is currently unable to live at the property.
Victory is hers!
In the initial lawsuit, the actress stated, “State Farm will take advantage of the vulnerability and distress of its policyholders when they find themselves in the very situations they paid thousands of dollars in premiums to insure against.”
State Farm General Insurance says they did nothing wrong denying claims relating to her home being damaged in the Woolsey Fire.
They accused Doherty of having “failed to take adequate steps to mitigate the damages claimed if any. To the extent that Plaintiff’s damages have been increased by her failure to so mitigate, she should be barred from recovering against State Farm.”
At the time of being served the lawsuit, State Farm argued the star failed to “satisfy all condition precedent to her rights, if any, to benefits under the insurance policy issued by State Farm.” They said the policy she has does not cover what she is seeking.
The Woolsey Fire!
They also claimed that Doherty failed to take the required actions following the fire. The policy has certain provisions requiring the reporting of damage to the insurance company within a timeframe and to protect the property from further damage.
On Monday, October 4, Doherty's lead counsel, Devin McRae, issued the following statement regarding her victory, “We thank the members of the jury for their thoughtful consideration of Shannen’s case. We are happy they saw the case the way we do. This should send a message to State Farm and other institutions that they should not forget they are dealing with human beings.”
Congratulations on Doherty's major win in the courtroom.
