The tradition of Halloween originated with the Samhain festival of the Indo-European people called Celts, who lived in parts of Europe and Anatolia. To mark the event, they lit bonfires and burnt crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities.

During the celebration, they wore costumes, mostly made of animal heads and skins, and dabbled into fortune-telling.

Over time, the festival evolved into Halloween, which is marked on October 31 annually. It entails various jolly activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, donning costumes, and playing scary pranks.

With Halloween right around the corner, Netflix offers an array of gore-filled movies or classic slashers to get you in a spooky mood. Whether your kink is zombies, vampires, or just any gory film, there is something available for everyone.

Here’s a guide to the four scary movies on the platform for your streaming pleasure this Halloween season.

'Army Of Thieves'

Due to Snyder’s “Army of the Dead” receiving critical acclaim, Netflix ordered and concluded the shooting of its prequel “Army of Thieves” a few months later.

The film was set in a Zombie apocalypse that had ravaged the financial sector of the country. Availing himself of the opportunity it brought, a safe-cracker Dieter joins a group of thieves that attempts to pull off a heist by breaking into a bank vault that held millions.

Matthias Schweighöfer reprises his role as Ludwig Dieter and joins the directorial team of Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller, and Dan Maag to deliver the action-packed movie.

While talking to the Hollywood Reporter recently, Deborah divulged some extra tidbits about the film. She said it promised lots of thrill, comedy, and romance apart from the whole zombie thingy.

For viewers who only love to skim the surface of horror movies, this is the movie to watch.

'Night Teeth'

The Vampire fiction genre is usually a quick go-to for viewers who love gothic horror stories. Watching reanimated bodies feed on the blood of the living to keep their immortality has always appealed to the dark side of normal folks.

On Netflix, “Night Teeth” promises to give all the thrills that come with this genre, but in a modern setting.

Benny, a self-employed driver, is employed by acquaintances Blaire and Zoe to chauffeur them to LA nightclubs for the night. As the night grew darker, he discovered that there was more than meets the eyes of his passengers.

He realized that they were centuries-old bloodsuckers and found himself dragged into an ongoing power tussle between the city's vampires.

To ensure his survival, Benny must ally himself with the girls as the night went from bad to worse. The thriller film was directed by Adam Randall and had Brent Dillon in charge of the screenplay.

It starred Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Debby Ryan, Megan Fox, Lucy Fry, Alfie Allen, Raúl Castillo, and Alexander Ludwig.

'The Ritual'

Unlike the previous films that premiered in October 2021, “The Ritual” has been available to watch for a while on Netflix.

The 2017 British horror bared testament to the mysteries and monsters that are lurking around forest regions. It followed the adventure of four longtime friends whose lives were affected by the death of their mutual buddy.

In memory of him, they took a hiking trip into the Swedish wilderness. There, they got entangled in the twisted rituals of mummified zealots in service of a strange deity. From then, everything went downhill, and the certainty of their survival felt tethered to luck.

The film is based on the 2011 novel “The Ritual” by Adam Nevill. It has Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali, Robert James-Collier, and Sam Troughton portraying the four friends.

'Cam'

Viewers' worst fears about identity theft came true in this 2018 American psychological horror film.

In the film, Madeline Brewer portrayed a camgirl obsessed with attaining the top spot on a sexually explicit site. Things went in her favor for a while, as she progressed in rank to her utmost delight.

Suddenly, the trajectory of her life became skewed as her identity got stolen by an unknown doppelganger who performed weirder and more dangerous ideas.

The movie is well-packed with suspense as it leads viewers down a road filled with twists and turns. It also warped reality to the point where viewers were uncertain of what they saw until the very end.

The storyline used in the film was taken from the personal experience of Screenwriter Isa Mazzei's when she worked as a camgirl.
