Nick Cannon Taking Over For Wendy Williams On Daytime Talk Show?!
By Mike Walters on October 1, 2021 at 6:23 PM EDT
Nick Cannon is being tapped for possibly replacing Wendy Williams on her daytime talk show if the legendary on-air personality doesn't return due to her ongoing medical issues.
According to reports, Nick Cannon is being considered as a potential host to take over Wendy's timeslot, if she doesn't come back. Obviously, the current program is 'The Wendy Williams Show' so it will have to be completely overhauled for Cannon's new show to work.
"The executives have been talking," a source told Page Six.
They continued, "They are keeping a close eye on [Williams’] recovery and hoping for the best. But they have pushed back [her] show premiere several times so they are already thinking of a backup plan."
Is Wendy Williams Out Of The TV Business For Good?!
As we reported, Williams has now canceled her return for the second time due to ongoing health issues. It's unclear exactly what is wrong with the talk show host, but she issued a statement claiming she is suffering from COVID-19. But, several reports claim the on-air personality has spent time recently in a facility which deals with mental health.
According to several reports, Wendy Williams was transported to Beth Isreal hospital last week, for a "psychiatric evaluation."
A spokesperson for the NYPD confirmed they received a call at 8:43 am requiring an ambulance to transport a 57-year-old woman residing at Williams' Manhattan building for a psychiatric evaluation. The patient was taken to the hospital. At the time, a source told the media that Williams was suffering from various medical issues including her ongoing battle with Graves disease. Plus, she is lonely after splitting from her husband Kevin, after many years. “It has been a very difficult time for Wendy. She’s a single woman with very few friends. She lost her marriage, her mom, and is living alone,” a source said.
Nick Cannon Is An Obvious Pick To Replace Wendy Williams
“It would not be a far stretch for Nick to take her time slot… Debmar-Mercury [which produces both shows] is really pushing to make Nick Cannon’s show a huge success. He already has a major platform, and a huge fanbase, so it is an easy win. So, if Wendy’s show ends up being a no-go, their backup plan is already set," the source said.
It should be noted, this instant change might not be as easy as it sounds. In the television business, Wendy's show is what they call "syndicated" -- so each individual station group would have to agree to replace Williams for Cannon. Of course, it's very likely that they would want Nick's new show, but it's not a guarantee. Also, Wendy's show is VERY successful, so we are dealing with millions of dollars in revenue. In other words, it's not as easy as just replacing one for the other.
'The Wendy Williams Show' Pushes Back Season 13 Premiere For A Second Time
The speculation is that Williams will address the ongoing situation on her show, but the date keeps getting pushed back. Interestingly, Cannon is listed as a guest for an upcoming taping of the talk show.
Nick Cannon has yet to comment on the situation.
