is best known as Captain Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise on “Star Trek: The Original Series,” which ran from 1966-1969.

William Shatner

Shatner is now heading off into the final frontier for real as he joins Blue Origin’s new space voyage.

He is part of a team of four that will be part of Blue Origin’s second launch into space as part of its new space tourism venture.

Fans reacted with many “Star Trek” memes and asked him to wear a Starfleet pin. Friend and “Seinfeld” actor Jason Alexander joked that this means he has to now become a marine biologist.

Richard Branson previously traveled to space with five others back in July as part of Virgin Galactic’s first space trip.

Jeff Bezos followed a week later with an 18-year-old and 82-year-old pilot. He set the record for youngest and oldest person in space.

Shatner was born in March 1931, making him 90-years-old. He will beat that record and become the oldest person in space when he makes his trip on October 12.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk also completed a space trip last month, including a cancer survivor who is also a physician assistant at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

In a statement, Shatner called the ability to go into space “a miracle.”
