On Monday night, Will Smith finally apologized to Chris Rock for the Oscars slap.

In an Instagram statement, he called his behavior “unacceptable” and “inexcusable.”

He said that the joke about his wife’s medical condition was “too much to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

He added, “I was out of line and I was wrong.”

“My actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” he said.

He also apologized again to the Academy, producers, attendees, and those watching along at home.

He also extended his apology to the Williams family and the King Richards family.

He said he deeply regretted that his behavior had stained the ceremony.

“I am a work in progress,” he concluded.
