Wednesday May 4 is known as Star Wars Day.

The day is also called “May the 4th Be With You.”

The official Star Wars website looked back at the history of the day.

The first movie, “A New Hope,” came out on May 25, 1977.

The earliest mention of the phrase dates back to 1978.

On May 4, 1979, Margaret Thatcher assumed office as Britain’s new prime minister.

The London Evening News took out a full page ad to celebrate the event.

They wrote “May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations!”

After Disney took over Lucasfilm in 2012, the event has only grown from there.
