At the end of February, he was the first Deaf person to win.

He accepted the award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role for “CODA.”

CODA is an acronym that means Child of Deaf Adult.

The film also picked up the big win for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

During his acceptance speech, Kotsur’s ASL was rendered into English through an ASL interpreter.

“I feel like I’m finally part of the family,” he said.

He also said he was thankful for the film casting real Deaf actors.
