Troy Kotsur is the first Deaf actor to ever appear in “Star Wars.”

He appeared as one of the Tuskens in season 1, episode 5 of “The Mandalorian.”

In the episode, he communicates with Din Djarin through sign language.

Kotsur actually created the sign language that the Tuskens use to communicate.

That language was later reprised in the spin-off “The Book of Boba Fett.”

Troy Kotsur explained that he “did research on the culture and environment of the Tuskens.”

He said that his goal was to avoid using ASL (American Sign Language) to put more emphasis on their culture.

On Sunday night, Troy Kotsur won an Oscar for his role in the Deaf ensemble film “CODA.”

He is the first Deaf male actor and the second Deaf actor to win an Oscar in the award ceremony’s 94-year history.
