On Tuesday, Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement from the NFL.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released a statement on Twitter shortly after.

Their official Twitter account tweeted, “Thanks for everything.”

General manager Jason Licht followed it up with a much longer statement.

He called Rob a “true professional” who “left it all on the field.”

He said that Rob “helped establish a championship culture in our building.”

He pointed out that Rob just had one of the most successful seasons of his career.

“It is always difficult to see a great player walk away from the game when he is still enjoying that kind of success,” he noted.

However, he said he just feels “gratitude and respect for one of the greatest tight ends who ever played the game.”
