Stephen Sondheim passed away suddenly on November 26, 2021.

He was 91-years-old.

He died early Friday in his home in Roxbury, Connecticut.

The death was described as “sudden.”

He had spent the previous day celebrating Thanksgiving with his family.

Neil Patrick was one of the first to express his condolences.

He wrote: “His genius is unparalleled, his contributions to the arts, undeniable.”

Brian Stokes Mitchell wrote “thank you for all of the gifts you have given to the theatre.”

Al Bernstein suggested that everyone “should sing as Sondheim song in celebration of his great life."
