“Rust” producers are firing back at New Mexico’s safety violation citation.

On Tuesday, they filed a note of contest against the agency’s findings.

The New Mexico Environment Department’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau issued the citation.

They determined there were “willful and serious” safety violations on the “Rust” set.

They fined producers the highest level citation and maximum fine allowable by state law: $136,793 dollars.

Rust Movie Productions accused the OSHB of being “unequipped” to determine safety violations on a movie set.

They also claimed that all actors had received “sufficient” training, including Alec Baldwin.

They allege that a safety meeting was held the day that cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot.

No one has yet been criminally charged in her death but the Santa Fe sheriff’s office has stated that the investigation is still open and ongoing.
