Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados, and raised in the capital of Bridgetown.

In 2008, former Prime Minister David Thompson declared February 22 Rihanna Day.

In 2018, she received the title of Ambassador for Culture and Youth in Barbados.

On Monday, November 30, Barbados officially declared itself a republic.

Rihanna was conferred as the national hero for Barbados.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley asked Rihanna to continue to “bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions.”

The country severed ties with Queen Elizabeth II, who sent “good wishes for your happiness, peace, and prosperity in the future.”

Princes Charles attended the ceremony and said he would always consider himself a friend of Barbados.
