Television icon Pat Sajak has announced his retirement from the competitive game show "Wheel of Fortune" after over 40 years.

He shared this news on his Twitter account, saying the upcoming 41st season would be his last.

Since taking over the hosting role from Chuck Woolery in 1981, Sajak has garnered numerous accolades, becoming the longest-running host of a game show in 2018.

Following his retirement, Sajak will serve as a consultant for the show.

The news stirred emotions among his fans, who expressed their sadness and gratitude over social media.

Sajak’s daughter, Maggie Marie, commented on the news, expressing excitement for the upcoming season.

Suzanne Prete, EVP of Game Shows at Sony Pictures Television, released a statement acknowledging Sajak's contributions and confirming his future role as a consultant.

The host, who has received 19 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host, first hinted at his retirement last year.

Co-host Vanna White spoke about her sadness over Sajak's exit and reflected on their close bond.

White found it "depressing" to think about the end of their joint hosting, considering their deep connection and the iconic nature of their partnership.
