A school district in upstate New York is getting heavy criticism online.

The incident happened at Mill Middle School near Buffalo, New York.

Sixth-grade students were asked to translate sentences from English to Spanish.

One sentence read “You (friendly) are Mexican and ugly.”

Another sentence read “You (politely) are pretty and American.”

One parent shared an image of the offensive homework assignment to Twitter.

“Can we even begin to unpack all that is wrong here?” they asked.

The Williamsville Central School District posted an apology to their Facebook page.

They did not say what disciplinary action the teacher would face.
