Jon Batiste will make his film debut in “The Color Purple" musical remake.

The movie is inspired by Alice Walker's novel of the same name and was adapted by Steven Spielberg in his 1985 version.

Jon Batiste will star as Grady, a charming pianist and husband of Taraji P. Henson's Shug Avery.

The upcoming musical will star Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins and H.E.R.

Oprah Winfrey, a producer on the upcoming remake, said the film served as “a vehicle for magic and purpose in her life.”

Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones will co-produce the film alongside Winfrey.

Filmmaker Blitz Bazawule will direct “The Color Purple" musical.

Jon Batiste recently won five Grammy awards in the 2022 awards ceremony.

Warner Bros will debut “The Color Purple” musical in theatres on Dec. 20, 2023.
