In yet another migrant tragedy, an 18-wheeler truck in San Antonio, Texas, was found to be piled with the bodies of 46 men and women.

Another 16 people, 12 adults, and four children were rescued and sent to the hospital, where they are likely to survive although their condition is unknown as of now.

All the people inside the trailer were likely to be victims of another smuggling operation gone wrong, and are believed to be undocumented migrants.

In a live press conference via Facebook, Chief William P. McManus of the San Antonio Police Department shared details of the "horrific tragedy" on Monday.

He said that they received the first call at 5:50 p.m. local time when an employee who worked at a nearby building heard a faint cry for help

Officials from the SAPD peered into the partially open truck doors and found 46 dead bodies and 16 individuals in varying conditions inside.

The victims who were still alive were rushed to nearby hospitals after multiple police, fire trucks and ambulances responded to the scene, at the 9600 block of Quintana Road.

The tractor-trailer was abandoned near train tracks and an auto salvage yard and for now, it's not clear as to how many people were actually inside.

The victims were likely suffering from heat exhaustion and stroke, and investigations by authorities are underway to get to the offenders behind this senseless loss of life.
