Mayim Bialik made her directorial debut with the movie “As They Made Us.”

The film stars Dianna Agron and Dustin Hoffman.

It tells the story of a divorced mom trying to care for her ailing father.

Bialik revealed that the story is a personal one.

After her father died in 2015, Bialik began writing to cope with her grief.

“And literally, I ended up with a screenplay,” she said. “I’ve never written one before.”

That being said, she doesn’t think of her movie as a film about loss.

She said it’s the story about what happens between siblings in families with mental illness.

“The Big Bang Theory” costar Simon Helberg plays her estranged brother, Nathan.
