Matthew McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas.

As such, he has insight into the shooting that left 19 children and two adults dead.

On Monday, he published an op-ed in the Austin American-Statesman.

He said that 88% of Americans support background checks for gun purchases.

“Including a lot of responsible gun-owning Texans,” he added.

He also proposed raising the age of assault rifle purchase from 18 to 21.

He pointed out that the 18yo shooter in the Uvalde massacre had “obeyed the law.”

He also called for a national waiting period for assault rifles.

He wrote, “Studies show that mandatory waiting periods reduced homicides by 17 percent.”
