Legal experts are weighing in on the “unexpected” jury verdict.

In Amber Heard’s countersuit, she was awarded only $2 million dollars.

Johnny Depp prevailed in his initial defamation lawsuit and was awarded $15 million by the jury.

That was broken down into $10 million compensatory and $5 million punitive.

However, that $5M was broken down to $350,000 due to Virginia state law.

Regardless, it’s a clear win for Depp, one that legal experts are calling “unexpected.”

Family law attorney David Glass also called the case “unusual” when speaking with PEOPLE.

He said that punitive damages meant that the jury felt that Heard “did this on purpose to try and hurt him” when she wrote the op-ed.

Glass also said that it meant the jury “did not believe” Heard’s allegations of physical, emotional, and sexual assault.
