Kirsten Dunst's ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal almost replaced Tobey Maguire as the lead of "Spider-Man 2."

At the time, Maguire was reportedly asked to avoid further stunt injuries to prevent paralysis.

This situation encouraged Director Sam Raimi to think of Dunst's then-lover Gyllenhaal for the Marvel role.

The "Prince of Persia" actor confirmed he was considered for the part but believed it belonged to Maguire.

Dunst was against Gyllenhaal's casting and called the idea of partnering on the movie "weird."

The "Melancholia" actress clarified that she would rather co-partner on a smaller, more intimate film.

On the other hand, Dunst found starring alongside her fiancé Jesse Plemmons "really easy."

The two first started in the FX Series "Fargo," followed by the critically-acclaimed movie "The Power of The Dogs."

Dunst noted that their creative sync catapulted into a romantic relationship around their first year working together.
