Kim Basinger has called for a ban on dog meat in South Korea in an op-ed which was published in The Korea Daily.

Basinger wrote in the op-ed shared by Newsweek, about her visit to South Korea in 2019, where she protested against the sale of dog meat.

She thanked the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol, who is an animal lover, for speaking up against the meat trade.

Basinger acknowledged South Korea’s growth, development and success.

She shared that "the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

While speaking against the trade of dog meat in her op-ed, she acknowledged that she might be trespassing and condemning another culture.

According to Basinger, other activist groups will be raising awareness during the summer when dog meat sales and ingestion are at an all-time high.

Basinger explained that the ban on the dog meat trade appeared to unite people from all political fronts.

The Hollywood actress hopes to make another trip to South Korea to support the president's resolve on the dog meat trade.
