Johnny Depp lost a ruling in his upcoming defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The actors agreed on a disparagement during their divorce settlement to prevent each other from publicly criticizing themselves.

Heard countersued Depp for defamation after the actor initially sued her for the same reason.

Depp's attorneys requested that the court strike out a possible argument from Heard that would allow her to state that her 2018 article in the Washington post was for the public interest.

The judge denied the argument claiming there was no basis to agree to its terms.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and actor James Franco are witnesses in the case.

Depp and Heard are both scheduled to testify in person during the trial.

Depp's career has suffered a big hit since the start of his legal troubles.

The actor had earlier lost his suit against Rupert Murdoch's The Sun tabloid in November 2020 for calling him a "wife-beater."
