John Mayer announced on Instagram that he is leaving Columbia Records.

He first signed to the label in 2001 and has been with them for 21 years.

He has recorded 8 studio albums with them, including his recent LP, Sob Rock.

Mayer announced that he decided not to renew his contract with them.

He wrote, “I’m excited to pursue new avenues of making music, both of my own and with other artists.”

“I love music more than ever, and I believe some of my best work still lies ahead,” he added.

Over the years, Mayer has been nominated for 19 Grammys and won 7.

He is currently touring around the U.S. on his Sob Rock tour.

In late February, several dates were postponed due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
