German director Wolfgang Petersen has passed away.

He had created several successful Hollywood films including 1997’s “Air Force One.”

He also directed 2000’s “The Perfect Storm” and 2006’s “Poseidon.”

He became most famous for his World War II movie, “Das Boot.”

The film was nominated for six Academy Awards and had the biggest budget in German movie history.

He passed away last Friday in his Brentwood Residence.

He went peacefully after struggling with pancreatic cancer.

He left behind his wife, Maria Antoinette, who he was married to for over 50 years.

He also leaves behind a son named Daniel and two grandchildren.
