General Colin Powell passed away earlier today on October 18, 2021.

A statement from his family on his Facebook page confirmed he passed away from COVID-19 complications.

They added that he had been fully vaccinated.

Powell, 84, was born in Harlem, New York, and grew up in New York City.

He was a 35-year veteran of the United States Army.

He first served as a national security advisor under former President Ronald Reagan.

He later became the 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He served under George W. Bush as Secretary of State from 2001-2005 during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Powell is survived by his wife, Alma, three children, and two grandchildren.
