Ed Sheeran

Criticizes Toxic Environment of American Awards Shows And Says British Award Shows Are Better

The 'Bad Habits' singer spoke with Audacy’s Julia after the 2021 MTV VMAs and revealed his true feelings about American award shows.

Ed described a toxic energy that surrounds the events and said British award shows have way better vibes.

Toxic Energy

“The room is filled with resentment and hatred towards everyone else and it’s quite an uncomfortable atmosphere,” Sheeran said.

“All the artists are sweet people, but they’re like, surrounded by entourages that want them to win too," he said, "everyone is kind of giving each other the side-eye.”

“In England, our award shows are just like, everyone gets drunk, and no one really cares who wins or loses; it’s just sort of a good night out.”

England's Better

He clarified that it is not specifically the VMAs. “It’s nothing to do with MTV or the award show; it’s at all the other awards shows [too]."

“It’s just lots of people wanting other people to fail, and I don’t like that,” Ed said about American award shows.
