Demi Lovato has come to terms that their life with substances is not the life for them.

Following their near-fatal overdose in 2018, Lovato tried being “California Sober.”

California Sober” means they drink and smoke pot; however, they don’t do hard drugs.

Lovato quickly learned this lifestyle was not putting them on the right path to recovery.

They retracted their statement in December 2021 about the “California Sober” lifestyle and has been without drugs or alcohol since.

In a new interview with Boston’s Audacy Mix 104.1, the singer opened up about their clean new lifestyle.

Last week, Lovato admitted, “I had people around me that wanted me to be sober. And I don’t think that I wanted it.”

The non-binary singer also said they tried making “bargaining choices” on their road to recovery.

“I tried just smoking weed, I tried doing this...And I just realized that none of it works for me. What's come into my life is acceptance…” they said.
