Dakota Johnson is opening up on filming “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Johnson told Vanity Fair that it was “mayhem all the time” behind the scenes.

She said that she “signed up to do a very different version of the film we ended up making.”

She said that author E.L. James “just demanded that certain things happen.”

Johnson pointed to elements of the book, like Ana’s inner monologue, that wouldn’t translate well to the screen.

“It was always a battle,” she said. “Always.”

At one point, Johnson revealed that they were forced to do different versions of each scene.

“We'd do the takes of the movie that [James] wanted to make, and then we would do the takes of the movie that we wanted to make,” Johnson said.

She noted that “there were a lot of different disagreements” behind the scenes.
