The famous couple’s split comes just days after he was busted for allegedly assaulting Heidi Liddell

Chuck ‘Iceman’ Liddell broke his silence on the situation, claiming he is the true “victim” in this case.

According to the UFC fighter, his wife is suffering from mental illness and he was protecting her from being locked up.

Liddell issued a statement earlier this week, saying he “took his wife’s place” in the jail cell, so she wouldn’t be arrested.

“I was the victim of the incident last night at our family home, as details of the case will reveal. The deputies informed me that my wife would be arrested, as I did not respond to her assault while I sustained bruising and lacerations. I volunteered to go in her place,” he said.

This was one of many times I have tried to shield a family mental health issue from the public purview,” Chuck added.

The UFC star married Heidi Northcott on November 4, 2005. The ex-couple shares two children — a daughter Guinevere, and a son, Charles David Liddell Jr.
