Madeleine Albright was the first female Secretary of State.

She served under President Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001.

On Twitter, he posted a long statement expressing his condolences.

He called her “one of the finest Secretaries of State.”

He said that she was “an outstanding UN Ambassador, a brilliant professor, and an extraordinary human being.”

He enthused how she was “a passionate force for freedom, democracy, and human rights.”

He said that he and his wife, Hillary Clinton, were grateful for her “wonderful friendship.”

He said she also passed them “unfailing wise counsel” over the years.

He expressed condolences to her family and “everyone who loved her as we did.”
