A baby seal pup was crossing the road to get to the other tide.

On April 3, Southampton police responded to calls of a baby seal on the loose.

At 6:30 AM, a bystander reported the seal crawling along a usually crowded traffic circle in Riverhead.

The Riverhead News-Review reported that the seal climbed a fish ladder at Grandbel Park.

From there, it crawled onto the street until it was detained by police.

The Southampton police department posted a statement about the incident on Facebook.

“Our officers were able to detain the seal until the seal was taken into custody by the Riverhead Foundation,” they wrote.

Many citizens were relieved that the male gray harbor seal was unharmed.

“I’m glad to see the Southampton Police can really seal the deal,” one user commented.
