Louise Fletcher, the iconic actress who won an Oscar for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” has died.

Her rep, David Shaul, confirmed that Fletcher died Friday at her home in France.

“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is a classic film that won five Oscar awards in 1976.

Fletcher delivered a groundbreaking performance as Nurse Ratched.

Several popular actresses, including Angela Lansbury and Colleen Dewhurst, had rejected the role of Nurse Ratched.

In his memoir, the film’s director Milos Forman said he chose Fletcher after seeing her in “Thieves Like Us.”

After her success in Cuckoo’s Nest and several similar roles, Fletcher was typecast for villain roles.

She later acquitted herself in “The Cheap Detective,” “Cruel Intentions,” and “Natural Enemies.”

The actress married Jerry Bick, a producer, and literary agent, and they had two sons.
