On Friday, the Academy slapped Will Smith with a 10-year ban from Academy events.

However, they decided not to take back Smith’s Oscar.

THR spoke to many Academy members about their opinions on their punishment.

Carol Connors of the music branch said she was glad he will not present next year.

She also said that Chris Rock handled the incident “with great dignity.”

Stephen Potter of the sound branch thought the ten year ban was too much.

“Ten years is quite a long time and it’s possible this incident will mostly be forgotten before this term concludes,” he said.

Other members criticized the Academy and said they “dropped the ball” for not handling it at the event.

Larry Gleason of the executive branch called Smith’s punishment “Too late and too little.”
